Our Research Grant Proposal on Locust Countermeasures Has Been Accepted

Research

Our research proposal titled "Development of a Locust Control Planning Platform for Cost-Effective Observation and Intervention" has been selected for funding under the JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B).

Mass outbreaks of locusts have caused serious agricultural damage across Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world. With the effects of climate change, these outbreaks are expected to become an even greater threat in the future. In this project, we aim to develop a "control planning platform" that automatically determines when, where, and how to observe or intervene most effectively, using mathematical models to simulate locust movement and breeding, combined with cutting-edge optimization techniques such as deep unfolding.

By integrating expertise from diverse fields—including swarm control (control engineering), data science, and agricultural economics—we seek to optimize the planning of both observation and intervention. Our goal is to contribute to food security and regional stability from local to global scales, while also opening new pathways for managing complex social systems, with potential applications in transportation, energy, and beyond.

We are committed to advancing our research on locust swarm control and appreciate your continued guidance and support.
