In this work, we propose a method for achieving optimal output tracking using only input–output data, even when a detailed mathematical model of the system is not available. A key feature of the method is that it guarantees the tracking error converges at a pre-specified rate. To achieve this, we design two algorithms based on Adaptive Dynamic Programming (ADP) and validate their effectiveness through simulations with an aircraft model.
