Associate Professor Bai’s Research on 3D Cyborg Swarm Control Selected for JSPS Early-Career Grant

Blog

Associate Professor Bai’s proposal,
“Efficient Exploration and Optimal Distribution Control of Cyborg Rat Swarms in Three-Dimensional Space,”
has been selected for the JSPS Grant-in-Aid for Early-Career Scientists.

This project investigates cyborg systems that combine biological locomotion and adaptability with external control technologies. The primary aim is to theoretically organize how multiple agents can explore and distribute themselves in three-dimensional environments, establishing a design framework that explicitly accounts for the autonomy and interaction properties inherent to biological agents.

Rather than treating such characteristics as constraints, the research positions them as constructive elements in shaping collective behavior. While potential applications are acknowledged, the core focus lies in developing the mathematical modeling and distributed control principles that underpin this new framework.
